2nd shooting w/ Lynne Hulbert Photography

Lynne Hulbert let me second shoot this wedding with her (for those of you from dgrin who read my blog, this is Urbanaries). I had a blast and she let me use some of her lenses...as a result after falling it love with it that night, I bought a used 50mm f1.4 lens off of Andy on dgrin and it is arrive tomorrow! I simply cannot wait for that lens to be added into my gear bag.

Also in other news, I went to Roberts Imaging in Indianapolis while I was there this past week and got to feel the 24-70 2.8 and the 85 1.2 on the original 5d to get a feel for how it would be if I got them for the 5d mk ii that I pre-ordered... the 24-70 is doable...but the 85 1.2 is just ridiculously heavy, to the point that I'd probably take 5 shots and then put the thing down to give my hand a rest. While it may produce awesome results, the weight is a big negative for that lens to me... anyhoo, Cindy and I were talking and she recently got the 24-70 so I plan to play with it some more when she and I get together later in the week to see how I like it. There is nothing wrong with my 17-55 that I currently use for the closer range, just that lens is an EF-S meaning it will only work on crop sensor cameras, not full frame ones like the 5d Mk II...

Anyhoo, on with the awesome shots I took with Lynne!

I'll try to mention which lens I used for what below.

1. First we'll start with "the ring" shot. Done with my 100 Macro :)

2. My 70-200 f2.8 took this outside with some fun backlighting

3. First dance. taken w/ my 70-200

4. Trying out lighting on a stick thanks to urbanaries, taken with my 100 macro

5. 70-200 captured this father daughter dance moment

6. A fun shot with urbanaries 50 1.4

7. Another cool shot with the 50 1.4

8. and another with the 50 1.4

9. Used my 70-200 to get this neat shot of a guest next to some art

10. another 50 1.4

11. and another cuz this lens was so cool

12. And yet another w/ the 50 1.4 lol

13. We'll end with one more 70-200 shot

College Sweethearts Get Married (9/13/2008)

1. I've wanted to do an under the veil shot for so long and they humored me and I love it!

2. I had to pose them w/ the sign hanging in the church

3. I took this from the balcony and love how it came out

4. A cute shot from the front, they were in this position since I was actually taking pics of their hands over her dress in the front, and then I snapped this after that

5. Making her laugh during the reception

6. This was clever, as soon as he got the garter off without even turning around he whipped his hand backwards and tossed it, the guys were totally caught off guard

7. The garter later ended up as a headband on the girl who caught the bouquet

8. A ring shot that also shows off the intricacy of their gorgeous unity candle. Neat note about the bride's ring - the engagement ring and this ring have sapphires that were chosen specially to match her eyes by the groom!

9. And because this church was just so beautiful inside, a nice wider angle shot of the sanctuary

Wedding in an Opera House

For those who have been eagerly awaiting, here's photos of my Big on her wedding day!

1. My favorite shot of her

2. My wedding photography mentor had this date open so she tagged along and threw them in this cool positioning:

3. She also saw the floor of the stage and knew we had to put the bride on it for some neat shots:

4. From their first dance:

5. Running out of the opera house to a bunch of bubbles awaiting them

6. I like how she's pulling him into her in this shot:

7. This was just hilarious, the wind caught her super long veil and threw it straight up!

8. Mmm strawberry cake:

9. This is actually a shot of one of the bridesmaids getting her nails done pre-ceremony, I really like it:

10. The bride and her mother:

11. Everyone getting ready in the mirror:

12. And lastly, just before the kiss:

Jill & Michael (July 5th, 2008)

This was my first wedding w/ the 70-200 f2.8/L IS USM and oh BOY am I glad I finally have it!!! It got me some awesome shots from the balcony during the ceremony ^_^ Below is a mix of shots with it and the 17-55 f2.8 IS USM.

1) This one is probably my favorite shot:

2) I had a great angle upstairs w/ the 70-200 for this shot

3) Another 70-200 shot. They looked so happy being announced as husband and wife finally :)

4) So my order is a little wacky, but anyhoo, I shot this before the ceremony and really like how it came out.

5) A fun shot with the bridesmaids in the bathroom

6) A mother daughter moment before the wedding ceremony

7) Not sure why, but I like this shot of them signing their marriage license

8) And lastly, Michael loves his mom (taken during their dance)

This wedding had such great emotions and energy, it was a real pleasure to shoot.
